Curriculum and classes

COVID-19 UPDATE: Due to the recent pandemic, many changes will be made to ensure the safety of your child. Please click here for more information. Please keep in mind that ALL classes will now be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
What we teach...

The term “developmentally appropriate” simply means teaching based on theories of child development and the strengths and needs of young children.

Preschool-aged children are not smaller sized elementary students. They learn differently. They need to move, explore and get their hands dirty. They learn best through play—not by sitting at a desk and completing worksheets.

Teaching young children requires a “whole child” approach. NCP strives to cover the following domains each day:
- Physical Development – How do I move my body to be healthy and have fun? How do I use scissors? How do I hold a marker or paint with a brush?
- Intellectual Development – What is this? How does this work? If I do this, what will happen?
- Emotional Development – What do I do when I miss my family? How do I express emotions appropriately? How do I try something new when I’m afraid?
- Social Development – How do I make a friend? How do I resolve conflicts at school? How do I share and take turns?
- Spiritual Development – Where did I come from? What is my purpose? Who can I turn to when life is scary?

Class Descriptions...

Birds - This class is for children ready to venture away from the nest for a few mornings per week. The class is held  MWF from 9:00- 11:30. Children must be three years old and toilet trained. Social/emotional development, art, music, songs & finger plays are the focus of this group.

Bunnies - Children who are 3 or 4 years old meet MWF from 9:00-11:30 or 12:30-3:00. Creative art, music, language arts, early math & science concepts are the focus. Bible stories and a scripture theme add to the child’s spiritual development.

Bumblebees -This class is designed for children who are five years old but not quite ready for Kindergarten. Classes meet MWF from 9:00-11:30 or 12:30- 3:00. Kindergarten readiness is stressed with pre-reading/writing activities, early math & science. Bible stories and basic Christian principles plant seeds in your child’s heart. Social/Emotional maturity is developed as we stress II Timothy 2:24 “Be kind to everyone.”

Extended Day Program- Any child enrolled in the am MWF classes may add an afternoon session and extend the school day until 3:00 pm. The quiet afternoon allows enhanced activities and helps children prepare for the transition to Kindergarten. Parents provide a packed lunch.

Lunch Program – Every child in our program may add the lunch option from 11:30-12:30 for a small additional fee. Children bring a packed lunch and the school provides milk.

Early Arrival/Late Pick-up - These options are available upon request.
